Welcome to the Early Years Department of Homefield Preparatory School where we deliver an outstanding quality of education. We work in close partnership with parents to ensure we are constantly creating the very best learning environment. By the time the boys move on at the end of Reception they have achieved high standards; they have developed in confidence and are well prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
We are very proud of our inspection by ISI in March 2013, which rated us ‘excellent’ in every area. We are fortunate that all boys benefit from specialist lessons in Sport, Music and French and have access to all areas of the main school indoors and outdoors. This provides a very special offer to the boys with the chance to access an exceptional provision and coaching beyond the Early Years classroom. We have embedded Outdoor Learning into our curriculum as we believe that contact with the natural environment expands the boys' imagination, deepens their curiosity and encourages their motivation to learn.
We have some very impressive outcomes here, our boys exceed expectations in a broad array of subjects (100% reaching national Early Learning Goals) including Health and Self Care, Technology; Reading, People and Communities, the World and Exploring and Using Media and Materials. Nationally, Literacy and Mathematics remain the subjects in which fewest boys achieve the expected level or higher, however by the end of Reception at Homefield is very different, 97% achieved the expected level or higher in literacy and 77% achieved the expected level or higher in mathematics.
We also offer a concise phonics programme which begins in Nursery and ensures all boys make rapid progression with their reading. We make learning fun for the boys who thoroughly enjoy their Early Years’ experience with us.

The Nursery is available for all boys to attend five full days a week. However, parents may decide to choose morning-only sessions (all five mornings) if they prefer. There is then the option of adding full days gradually. Boys in Reception attend full-time from the start of September.
