Peter Graces Twickenham’s Hallowed Turf

Peter in Year 2 was selected to be one of the England rugby team’s mascots as they took on the legendary Barbarians at Twickenham last Sunday.

Peter had a day to remember, getting to meet the stars before the match, running out onto the pitch with Newcastle Falcons’ Mark Wilson and singing the national anthem alongside Sale Sharks star Danny Cipriani.

He was following in the footsteps of former Homefield boy, Charlie Sharples, in gracing the hallowed turf. Charlie represented England against the Barbarians last year but was unavailable for selection this season as he was playing for Gloucester in a European Cup play-off against Bordeaux-Bègles.

Peter was clearly a lucky mascot as England coasted to a record 73-12 win over the Barbarians. More importantly, he was a credit to himself and his family, demonstrating a superb level of confidence and bursting with pride as he sang the national anthem.

Peter is passionate about rugby and plays locally for Sutton & Epsom RFC where he was awarded the best newcomer trophy two years ago. He is certainly setting his sights high. “I want to play fly half and be captain of England,” he said.
